CanadaBuys
CanadaBuys is the Government of Canada’s official portal for federal procurement — the platform where departments post tender opportunities and contract awards, and where suppliers register to do business with the federal government. If you sell to the Government of Canada, this is where the paper flows.
What it is
Per Public Services and Procurement Canada and Shared Services Canada, CanadaBuys (canadabuys.canada.ca) is the official source for Government of Canada tender and award notices. Through it, suppliers search public sector tenders and contract history, register as suppliers, complete business profiles, and access the electronic procurement solution to view and bid on opportunities. Canada and Annex 19-1 entities publish their covered tender notices through this Government Electronic Tendering Service, as required by trade agreements such as CETA Chapter 19.
How suppliers register
Per PSPC’s electronic procurement transition guidance, bidding on opportunities posted to the electronic procurement solution requires registering in SAP Business Network (SAP Ariba). For bids not processed through SAP Ariba, suppliers register in Supplier Registration Information (SRI) to obtain a procurement business number. Some opportunities still require bid submission through a bid receiving unit or Canada Post Connect — each notice states its delivery method. CanadaBuys also organizes tenders using UNSPSC commodity codes, so subscribing to the right commodity notifications matters for seeing relevant opportunities.
Contract history and data
Award notices and contract history are published on CanadaBuys, with procurement and contracting datasets available for download. Suppliers can request an official supplier contract history letter — often required to demonstrate past performance. This is the federal counterpart to provincial platforms like BC Bid and SEAO.
Common questions
Did CanadaBuys replace Buyandsell.gc.ca?
Yes — PSPC’s electronic procurement transition moved tendering, award notices and supplier registration from Buyandsell.gc.ca to CanadaBuys, with e-bidding running on SAP Ariba. Older references to buyandsell.gc.ca in guides and templates now point to CanadaBuys.
Do I need SAP Ariba or SRI?
Depends on the solicitation: SAP Ariba registration is required to view and respond to opportunities posted to the electronic procurement solution; the procurement business number from SRI is required for bids not processed through SAP Ariba. Many suppliers keep both current. See our page on SAP Ariba bidding in Canada and procurement business numbers.
